Well, as I am new here I thougth I would introduce you to my rover, so here is a brief photo essay....... thingy.

Wotcher, if you're still around, just a few quick questions, it seems to have a four-gear gearbox and no control box for the transfer box/diff lock, where did they move them to?  And what engine does it have in it?

Also there appears to be an extra speedo on the passenger side, I didn't know they allowed wives on trips like that ;-)

The transfer lever is coming out of the seat box on the drivers side, the diff lock is vacuam operated and the actuator is also on the seat box in the centre ,along with the fuel tank change lever.

It has a tweaked 3.5ltr V8. The extra speedo is for the navigation by the commander (he sits in the front passenger seat), accurate speed readings helps when map reading. I have however not got it connected, so no grief from the verbal rev limiter.... :D

Is that the first thing you could think to ask  :?  always puzzles me as if it wasn't a private road no-one but the owner is going to get into trouble, and its not harming anything.

Anyhow looks great, i love it.  Where did you get it from? and did it come with all that stuff or did you add that?

I was too gonna ask about the transfer lever and thought thats where it may have been......

Yeah I wondered about that, and how come if he's that concerned about legality he didn't question whether the honking great big machine gun had a deact certificate or not, which must surely be of more concern to Mr. Peaked Cap.  Too many goose-steppers around as it is, kicking us off the green lanes.

Nice beast anyhow, I personally wouldn't take one that kitted up off-road, much too nice for that.  You see a few pinkies at the military shows, for some reason they always look much larger than they should!

It  took a year to put together, it came from a scrap yard, and half the bits had been destroyed. I also kitted it all out myself.....

It is fine off road, it has massivley uprated suspension, and copes with the extra wieght fine, it is after all what it was designed for......

There are only 7 of these left, most at the shows are replica's, you can spot a replica a mile off as it has a 5 speed box and the fuel tank is in the normal place. They also dont have the front Salisbury axle or the front and rear anti roll bars....

Well you have done a damn good job of  kitting it out and putting it all together !!!  :o  :shock:  :D

I expect it is good off-road, I'd keep it on tarmac meself simply because cleaning all the mud out of the kit would take so long and it'd be a shame to start it all rotting after all that work you've put in!  I can't be bothered to clean my normal landy, let alone something with that amount of kit on it ;-)

I'd noticed those rear roll bars and was going to ask about those, wasn't expecting to see them on one of these.

I also didn't know there were so few around, where's the fuel tank on yours? Is it under what appears to be a single rear seat?  I'll see if I can spot the replicas next time!

nice bit of kit. one thing i will say is when we were in the gulf we had a snatch bag on the bonnet just by the commanders side with basic survival kit in just in case we got hit and had to bail out. Oh and you may want to put a couple of rolled up hash sacks above the lights front and rear so went in hide mode they drop down and hide the lights. Also we had qt diff sliders fitted to the strip downs we used. But must say that one does look the part nice bit of hard work done there

Tweaked 3.5, understatement :)

4 speed, vac operated diff lock, sounds like the early RRC 'box then (is it LT95 IIRC), stronger box than the LT77, and I noticed the Salisbury with that hooge anti roll bar.

Do you know what it weighs when loaded up, I guess it carries a lot of fuel and water too if you filled everything up.

Are those 1 ton rims rather than Wolf rims, I'm guessing it predates the Wolf anyway.

Bludy nice truck mate, hope to see it in the flesh one day.  Do you drive it around much? love to be a fly on the wall when you do :lol:

-Yes that is a GMPG (general purpose machine gun).

-The fuel tanks are under each of the front seats, series stylee....

-I will be at Gaydon and Eastnor Castle with a bit of luck.

-I was on the London to Brighton but not with this one, I was a passenger in another real one. There were two real and one fake one there.

-Fully Laden they weigh between 3 and 5 tonnes.

I dont understand what you mean about QT sliders. It has southdown front steering and axle gaurds, southdown made and supplied rear axle gaurds but I have been led to believe these were never fitted. The hessian covers are rolled up for use. They are designed to prevent the sun gliunting on the glass of the lenses thereby giving the position away.

On our (R.Sigs) 4 ton bedfords we had hessian skirts running all way round the body to eliminate the dark area under the vehicle that was also easy to pick out... and another that came down over the cab to cover the expanse of glass on the windscreen and doors.

Hope this aint making you suck eggs...!

Cheers mate, that is the bit I DID understand, on the Pinkies the skirts round the sides were used in training in Africa, but were discarded by the time they got to the Gulf. Hessian covers were used over the lights BUT I havnt fitted them as I use the vehicle on the road too much......

hello mate yea qt diff sliders i mean sorry if a bit vague. These were standard fit to our strip downs. Also if you can dig out a pic for you i will do. Also some of the pinkys had a rear mount for a 50 cal this was very optional as they were hard to come by. plus the cam net we used as font cam for day use as we found it stood out to much on the roll cage. Plus we mounted a gpmg on the roll cage as well. But most of these are unoffical war diy mods we did for extra firepower just in case

mmmm Seen 5 of the seven that are left, not one of them had QT diff sliders.... Pics would be good.

As regards to rear 50.cal, I have got one, just struggling to find the mounts. They also fitted Mk19 or single or twin rear GPMG's. They also put Milan on the role bar.

yer, that works on the WMIK's but they have got light guards, wich give you something to attach it too. Most of my pics are on another PC. I shall post some at the nearest opertunity.
