Sounds more like patially siezed thrust bearing catching the diaphram springs on your clutch if you can feel it through your pedal.

hmm possibly, can't recall the exact arrangement of the thrust bearing but makes some sort of sense. I need to try it again I think now I have these ideas in my mind.
