90 transmision noise
tonycougar:
I was dropping some junk off at the tip in my old petrol 90 today and whilst I was driving/coasting between skips noticed a strange knocking noise which I could kind of feel through the clutch pedal, so thought I'd not let clutch out properly, put my foot hard down on clutch pedal but it made no difference. I was in high first, and it only seemed to happen at those low coasting sort of speeds.
New one to me any ideas :?:
AbyssDJ:
check UJ's... could be that one or more of them is that knackered that its on the edge of falling apart.
noises and vibrations in landies tend to travel... something that sounds like its in the gearbox can quite often be the rear, etc. irritating!
AbyssDJ:
failing that check halfshafts and drive members for wear. one of our shafts was replaced, and the old shaft now chatters a bit at low speeds when it catches up with the other shaft, if that makes sense?

It does sound more like something catching up, than a UJ sound (and I've heard enough of them to know em)
AbyssDJ:
possibly half shafts then. check the rear ones in particular. could just be worn splines like on ours. if it is, its no real problem... just irritating
until it munches the splines off altogether at the lights :P
