mystery electrics....any advice welcome!!!
« on: March 31, 2007, 00:11:09 »
can anybody out there help me out????? i have a problem with my electrics- the brake lights and the reverse lights have packed up, i recently bought a trailer hitched it up and everything was ok.(i don't know if this is the cause of the problem) anyway... the 15amp fuse (under the dash) keeps blowing.. as soon as i turn the ignition..any thoughts or advice would be good.. i have checked all the bulbs and they are fine.

some people have said its the relay??? if so which one???
some say i have a postive touching bodywork etc???
some say i need a complete new fuse box(i hope i don't!!)

thanks for taking the time to read my post..

Hi
strip out the 12n socket and check the earth pin hasn't fallen
across the others
sometimes trailer plugs are a bit cacked up where they are left
to lay in the mud
when fitted they can push the pins out
regards
steve
Don't blame me i only work on them

hi,
thanks for the info, i checked it out and it was fine, however i put a new fuse in and pressed the brake pedal and the fuse did not blow......it was in the end the brake light switch at the top of the brake padal!!!  went to my local car shop and got one for £5.50!!!   the wires that went into the switch, one had a small tear in it so i taped it up and away i went!!!

i am guessing that it had dropped down and got caught on the brake pedal went i drove the car.  such a simple fix i could not belive i had all the lights out, checked the wiring in the boot etc.. got it sorted by a fluke really
thanks again.
