V8 coolant loss

(1/3) > >>

pongo_bob:
Loosing a litre of coolant every 50 miles and a puddle on the drive overnight. Ordered some head gaskets and new head bolts. Started stripping down the top end ( even removed the exhaust manifolds ) to find the inlet manifold bolts at the back were finger tight

mark.yellow.series.3:
if theres a puddle on the drive, why the head gaskets?

proibibly just a water pump or hose or summat :D

pongo_bob:
It was coming from the back of the engine, running around the gearbox and dripping off the bell housing. As I couldn't see where it was coming from and it's a 4.0 and now at 110K miles I suspected the worst.

Remember the engine slopes front to back! When I fitted my thermostat housing back on badly, it leaked into the inlet valley, ran down bell housing and then dripped down about 3 feet from where it was leaking from
