Jim-Willy:
I has 235's on 5.5" rims and they looked pinched i wouldn't have been happy airing them down so i put them on 6.5" and now seem fine......

--- Quote from: "Bob Ajob" ---Anyone know how wider Defender rims are?

110 ones are 5.5" just like Series LWB rims.
Bob Ajob:
235/85R16 by calculation would be 31 3/4" (ish)m so I wouldn't worry about recalibrating your speedo.
235 tyres have 9.25" wide tread, almost 2" wider tread than 750s which have 7.5" wide tread. I would check with the manufacturer of the tyres to see what rim width is recommend for the tyres for safety reasons.
Too narrow a rim could lead to the tyres wearing badly, unevenly, instability at any speeds especially when cornering, or at worse could cause the tyre to come off the rim or a blowout.
A lot of tyre suppliers that advertise in Landrover mags actually advertise their tyres already on rims, perhaps for this reason.

Have you got a 88" or 109"
on the 88" the 235 85 will require a larger rim (6.5" from memory at least)from standard and is about the biggest you can go for. Do not make the mistake of getting 235 70 16 tyres, you will ground out on a speed hump.
If you have a 109" you could go up to the 265 75 tyres, but make sure you have a salsbury rear axle. You would need 7.5" rims at least
