Why I love my Freelander!
« on: March 19, 2007, 13:39:42 »
OK its a bit quiet round the forum at the moment so..

I have had my Freelander (an 05 TD4 SE 5 door Auto in Java Black) for just over a year now and I really like it becuase.....

It has hauled around various things, from tables at antique fairs, generator and lights for an event, concrete blocks, engines, desks for an office move and all sorts of stinky rubbish to the dump, a sofa and a fridge and en enormous garden shredder. It takes everything I have stied to stick in it!

It has been off road, nothing major, but some farm tracks to remote houses Im looking at buying, some nasty lay bys on the single track road to may stores, the snow we had, and the odd muddy car boot sale.  Most of these wuold have stopped or delayed a normal 2wd, especially anything low and sporty.

It drives so well, I am going to cornwall almost weekly at the moment at stick it in cruse at high m-way speeds and its fine. It handels well, I have drive high performence cars for years and althouhg its no GTi it is predictable safe and does not wallow. I prefer it to many estate cars I have driven.  It could do with a bit more overtaking punch as I often catch people up, but cant pass.

It looks great, Java Balck is my fave colour for freelanders and part of the reason for this car was to work for our business which is(was) a high end management training center.  It just lookes right next to the big house and fits the brand.  We though about a Kia, but it just diddnt cut it.

Its a LandRover so  went to the show and read LRO, I have allways liked Landrovers as a Series II was the first thing I ever drove round my parents field.

Its comfortable. The miles I have done have all been pleaseant with leather seats (under coverking covers) Air con, 6 CD changer, Cruse Controll etc.  ITs the best specced car I have ever owned.

Its reasonably economical.

So what about you lot, wht do you love em!

Yes, love it, but that is why I bought it.

Does deliveries for our shop up grotty Welsh lanes and farm tracks, that would be difficult in a loaded estate.

Allows me to do radio on car rallies without having to worry about what damage I am doing as I drive the stages.

Lets me go off roading, and surprises people on how capable it is.

Has acted as a removal van for all my kids at various times during their College lives, plus moved loads of stuff for us.

Tows my caravan perfectly, to the extent that I have forgotten it is their sometimes. Has always got me of wet and muddy rally sites with no problem, even to the extent of towing a Nissan 4x4 and 'van once!

Lets me help the local community by being part of Powys 4x4 Response, transporting the District Nurses in the last lot of snow, and Care Workers last year.

Handles as well as I need it too, but certainly doesn't embaress itself, as a friend in a BMW 5 series found out trying to follow me one night on the way back from a rally!

Oh and it's a 2000 year L series diesel 3 door with 72k on the clock, bought just under 4 years ago from an independent in Newtown.

Mines a 2000 L Series and I like it cos it has good road manners

My wife can drive it to work and ferry the kids safely around in it.

I can use it at weekends for laning around Devon or to get to the further flung events with comfort and speed.

It never ceases to amaze me of its capabilities.

The JE tune is a must and it sounds great with the straight through exhaust.

It looks great

Don't know why I love ours. It's unreliable, it isn't as capable off road as bigger landys, the boot is small and it's noisy. But, I do love it. It's done about 60k, 15k of them have been in our ownership in the last 2 years after being bought from a honda dealer.

got it s/h off that les on the devon dawdle, looks good and is lot lighter, exits out of the side behind the o/s rear wheel, not to easy to fit as the pipe ends were about the same size and it wouldn`t go on, bit of persuasion with a hack saw and mallet ok, got the dremmel tocut hole in plastic bumper, it did rattle on tow bar and body at first, now sorted

i have just recently purchased my 2002 Td4 freelander and its pretty good so far !!

the only ive found is that i seem to be getting alot of shoulder wear on the front wheels (is this common any advice or info would great :?:  :?: )

had it off road a little and found it capable enough for what i want !

 prefer my old disco or the defender (plainly for the uses of the transfer box)

all n all its quiet and comfy  :D

Love our Freelander Td4 ..... cracking motor, not as good off-road as my modded Disco 300Tdi, but then its a different kind of animal. Really, really good on the road. Had it from new (52 plate) for the last 5 years and its sound.

Just about bringing ourselves to sell it, but we've ordered a FL2, hope it will be as good as "Fred"
