Transfer box oil

(1/2) > >>

Difflock:
Just checked mine whilst in the area (Changed a snapped handbrake cable     ) and it appears to be transmission fluid i.e its red and p*ss thin,is this right ?? as I was under the impression it should be EP90/80

Budgie:
If you've got an auto with the viscous coupling instead of a central difflock then yep, it's right.

Range Rover Blues:
Is this the '93 RRC, then yes it should be ATF

Rainbird:
I've just been through this debate on another forum.  When the switch was made to the Borg Warner transfer box with viscous coupling (1988/1989), the correct LandRover recommendation was for Dexron IID ATF.  The Haynes guide still refers to the use of EP90 which is incorrect.  I'd followed the Haynes guide until I got a Land Rover workshop manual.  Luckily after 50k miles on EP90, the transfer box seems unaffected (fingers crossed)

EP90 should be used on earlier transfer boxes; ATF on the Borg Warner.  I contacted Haynes who will make a change to their information when/if they update the Rangie manual

Yoshi:
Definately Dexron IID, thats what i am using for mine :D
