What The Industrial Revolution Did For Us
Bush Tucker Man:
I'd keep an eye on BBC3 & 4 over the next few weeks Tina.
This evenings episode was about the introduction of James Watts steam engines, and the improvements in terms of condensing (in particular) that he refined. Plus his association with Matthew Boulton.
Also featured was Cromfords Mill, near Matlock.
Jacquards card system for cloth patterns was another featured item, being really the forerunner of machine-code and subsequently computer programming.
You really missed a treat.
Get someone to phone you just before next weeks programme starts.
wifey:
it's not that I forget, it's just that the kids are too young to appreciate it. Also, I'm on a huge guilt trip at the moment because I seem to be away from home more than I'm here, so when I am, I try to spend it with them, not watching TV. At least whilst they are awake
I worked in a cotton mill between o & a levels and even have a towell i helped make; I think Jacquards were used in that. I'd have to ask my sister; i was merely a creeler - putting the bobbins on. She and my mum (now dead) were warpers - who controlled the patern. Actually, my aunt and uncle worked in the mill too, so they should know.
Bush Tucker Man:
Dang!
Missed most of tonights episode.
I just caught the last 7-8minutes where Dan Cruikshank was looking at the anatomical displays.
Some very nice models in there of all your musculature, arterial system, skeleton, plus some sectioned heads, etc....
All plastic/fake, for the squeamish out there.
I'm given to understand that the body of the programme would be about Edward Jenner, the pioneer of vaccination.
Have to keep an eye on BBC3 & 4
wifey:
Tuesday, Tuesday...?
Can't even remember what I did Tuesday evening. Oh, yes I can! Went to my local GLASS meeting and met some more Mud Clubbers!
Phew! That's a relief. Thought my memory was finally failing me
SSign of either advancing age or over work. Probably both :)
Bush Tucker Man:
Blimey, you've been a busy girl this week Tina :)
