hobbit:
Ok here's one for you, a friend of mine is looking for a demountable 9,000 lbs winch unit that can be stored in the vehicle, taken out and mounted either front or rear as required, plugged into a local power connection on the front or back of the motor

any ideas?

i saw a similar thing on an american website a few weeks ago, ill try and find it again.. think it was called portawinch or portapull....

Basically it was a winch on a plate with a shackel on each corner and two handles on each side.... then u just pluged the electrics into either a prewired socket or used croc clips onto your battery, attacthed the winch and plate to your recovery points with a few strops, pulled the winch wire out and pulled away... the makers recond it was better than having a fixed winch cos you could mount it front or rear or even pull yourself sidewards up a slope!

I didnt think it was a bad idea, however not sure if i could be arsed lugging 50 kgs of winch and mounting plates around!

Hi Kev-Try DUCKWORTHS LANDROVERS at Market Rasen, I know for sure they do a kit because i looked at it for one of my past motors. The winch sits in a cradle which slots into a square box section on the front and rear and mounts using the bumper/chassis mounts,it's not a cheap piece of kit but it works A1,cheers Andy.
