PAJERO knocking front end

my mates got a J reg Paj swb and recently his front end has been knocking or clicking in 4wd, especially when its got to do a bit of work, going up hills etc. does anyone have an idea what it could be?

CV Joint possibly. Take it into a car park and do some tight circles under power, you'll find it will knock like a [!Expletive Deleted!] under lock if its CVs.

From doing the balljoints on dad's LWB, you'lll have fun doing this :)
