Help!!
« on: February 07, 2007, 18:36:36 »
So new to the site but hope somebody is a bit more decisive than me!! :D

Ive got a T reg TD5 90 hard top, full external cage, OME suspension etc etc, front superwinch, simex bla bla. Now I have the chance to do a swap/deal on a fully prepped 300 tdi 90 truck cab challenge truck, winches, lockers etc etc. Now what the hell should I do. Done loads of offroadin, now wana go further into the mud, would you guys go for the devil you know and sell a kidney to kit the TD5 or would you take the truck that is approx 4 years since its rebuild??? Oh and it has SR extreme kit :? . Any thoughts would be really really useful!!

The SR kit doesn't entice me ..... I'd stick with yours and mod it up ;-) If it's so good (The 300) why the swop ;-)

stay with the td5,
truck cab it
stick lockers in the axles and some h/d shafts, but convert back to AEU2522 cv's
dont even look at the extreme kit stay OME
and speak to porny (ian) on here and get that td5 tweaked
and then you have a aswesome challenge truck !!!!!!

Thats better! More ammo to make the decision harder! In an ideal world I would keep the TD5, by far an awesome truck, but its the cost factor in getting it to challenge spec  :(  where as the 300 is done. But I know what your saying, if I had the money (£3000ish!) it would be the TD5 without question. Just wana do challenge events and thinking that this may be the best route to get there! I used to be indecisive, now I just dont know!

no wrong
dont jump in at the deep end,
go into the challenge scence with what you got, and slowely build upon it
if you go in, with a full truck with everything, it takes the fun out of it
i started off with grizzly claws std diffs and a epi9
and i had more fun with that setup and learnt far more in the challenges with that setup
over now with extreme trekkers, arbs, modded 8274, h/d shafts u name it
its pointless
build up, learn about your truck
dont be worried about lockers or twin winches, cos if your planning in competing in a scoprion even, theres no lockin diffs aloud and only 1 winch, and damn right, brings the fun back into it

Thanks for that!!! :D

Been doing a lot of offroad over the last 8 years, started with the TD and have progressed up. Now got the truck nicely modded but, am limited to the comps I can do as I run simex jungles and they are not allowed in standard class  :(  so I would be put in the modded class!! And as as mr Brown keeps taking money off me cant afford a new set!!! I do winch for a job, trees forest work etc so not completely green!! ( well maybe just a bit!!)  :P  Oh and wasnt thinking of doing the scorpian challenges, just start local, challenge south west etc!!

agree,  when i had a basic setup i used get better results before the arbs twin winches came along ,

keep your td5 and by the sounds of it your be in standard Class so you can get decent results until your ready to be put into the modifed

No point going mods until yuor up to speed and as said above your actually develope the td5 to suit your needs rather than one that been done.
Cheers Markyb

made up ur mind yet mate, now i know which truck your looking at id be thinking of doing a swop, but keep ur wheels... i found some pix of that 300 90 you were looking at, looks ok, bit battered... the only thing that worries me is the tax exempt part of it??

I stilll think your TD5 is sweet mate, maybee do a CSW challenge in your Td5, you may surprise youself....
be warned the curley haired one is here !
