Another Insa Turbo Thread
« on: February 02, 2007, 21:13:53 »
Can anyone help.  I have a 90 with all the usual kit and have been thinking about upgraging the tyres to some 35" simex.  The problem is like most i dont have the biggest of budgets and am considering the Insa Special track which is more than half the price of the simex but a bit smaller.  Does anyone have some pics of a defender with the insa's on so I can get some idea of what they look like when fitted.  I've seen them on disco's and they look good but not seen them on a defender.  Can anyone help...

Sorry to raise the Insa Turbo thread again..

id go for the insa's. doubt you're gonna find a better mud tyre short of a simex, which cost a lot more.

we're having insa's on our 110... would gladly put simex on, but need to harden some stuff up before that

going 35 inch simex is a headache   need more offset 2 inch lift spare tyres for mot
o alot of spare half shafts and diffs
id go insa's for non competative playing
worth the money even tho they smaller
but a 265/75r16 is still 33 inch tall

onest take it from me, insa's are better unless your competing
but the only thing i found is my mates insas have rounded off on the leading edge and have dropped off in performance offroad, and my simex havent even started to round yet and have done more miles and off road trips

Yee, I know what your saying.  My mate is running Simex at the moment and even he is saying that when he comes to replace them he would go for the insa's.  I just like the look of the simex.  poseur you see.

There you go. back down to earth.  Ok so its a 300tdi so already got the 24's.  Know what your saying about the locker.  Going to pay a visit to the donnington show and if I can get a deal I'll pick one up (dont tell the wife)  kids need shoe's and sh*t.  The problem is Im running the Kumos at the moment, 285/75 x16.  they come out just over 32 inch and I hear loads of things about the insa and about the size.  I deff dont want to go any smaller and the bloke at paddocks told me they are just under 32inch and a little narrower.  thats why I wanted the pics of 90's with them fitted.  Anyway I've sold the kumos now so looks like I'm getting the insa.  I'll keep you posted..

if your 24 spline up front i'd if twas me, change back to 10 spline and fit the larger cv's ( AEU2522 ) or fit hardened shafts then u got to use the 2522's

265/75/16s are 31.6 inches diameter*
235/85/16s are 31.7 inches diameter

*Sidewall = 265/25.4*75/100 = 7.8 inches
Total sidewall = 7.8x2 = 15.6
Wheel = 16
Grand total =31.6 inches

I'd say take a look at my tyre size calculator, but my website is no more.  I have the tyre size calc in excel should anyone want a copy (bung in up to 4 tyres sizes for comparison)

yes in theory

in actual fact the insa's stand at approx 32 3/4" for both the 235's & the 265's

I'm not accounting for extra aggresive tread though.. the grizlies are the same and that ittle bit taller.  In theory if insa measuerments are correct the 235/85s should be the same height as close as to the others mentioned.
