sounds like problems i had with my sammy mate,

it could be possible that the plate on the gearbox could be missing, and its all clogged up with mud/dirt/water,
the plate is underneath where the housing fastens to the engine, its about 2inches x 4-5 inches and it bolts on,

on top of the sammy gearbox(clutch housing) is a rubber grommit, take it out and jet wash it out, you will be amazed what comes out.

take off the dizzy and spray with wd40, the starter should be ok when you jet wash through the inspection hole

Would still go with Si and say stick an SU on it, my carb started off fine, till one day in the water then that was it! You could never tell if today was going to be a god day or a bad day. SU on and it run's like a kitten.
If you don't know where you are going any road will take you there!

so why do you think it doesn't start? Is it starter motor broken problem, it'll bumb off very easiliy just not from the key.

Most probably the solanoid sticking.

Get the starter off and clean out the solenoid - very straightforward job :)

Remove the starter, on the side of it is a "sticky-out-thing" this is the solenoid.  Remove the 2 screws that hold this on, clean it all out, very lightly grease the plunger and refit :)

You've got that right Si, I now have 2 so I can be rebuilding one whilst filling the other with mud. Got it down to a fine art can change on in about 10 mins  :D

What do you mean by the window thingy on the clutch?

Got in it last night befor i tryed cleaning it out just turned the key and it started. it sticks every so often but seems ok. the only problem now is the tick over wen cold is fine but wen warm struggles. 0.5 rpm and cuts out evey so often. ive tryed ajusting the throttle cable on the carb end but it doesnt really help. their is a hammer like throttle which hits what i thought was a stopper but the more i turn up the throttle the more the stopper moves, any ideas, i wanted to go play in the mud on sunday at kirton lol cheers
