I cant help notice we share the website with Suzuki, creator of the Suzuki Jimny.

Not trying to offend anyone (especially forum straying jimny owners but....) can you actually off road in one of those?????

Ive only seen mums doing shopping in them!

What characteristics of a good off roader/off roader to they posess?

How about the same suspension layout as a Defender? They are half the weight of a Defender too.

If my old Samurai is anything to go by, a properly set up Jimny will go anywhere a Defender will and sometimes further! I suspect the 'out of the box' vehicle is quite capable of general field work. But with suitable mods it can be transformed into a serious piece of kit.

I used to go laning with the Cambs GLASS group and was often suprised by what I saw out there and how well it coped. I learned that the Freelander is surprising useful off road in the hands of a capable and experienced driver. Also surprised by how competent the Jimny was off road.

But saw it all with the guy who used to come out with his Citreon 2CV which was also surprisingly nimble !!!!

My mate Simon is using a Jimny chassis, with Land Rover axles, Nissan deisel and an SJ413 body for his winch challenge vehicle.  Best of both woelds really. I'll post some pics as soon as all the bits are together and it looks like a motor.

Only fit for the granny or mother to go shopping in if you ask me, altho traffic calming measures may harm them. Oh yeh and the scrap heap or possibibly toys r us, altho on second thorts not durable enough for toys r us :lol:

Got one, love it and its supprisingly capable.  But all the plastic on it does make for easy breakage off road.

Its like most vehicles out now.  From the manuf they are ok, but spend some cash and it can be made a very capable and durable vehicle.

 is they are either posing in Tescos carpark, or on the school run!!!!

Yep, I agree Fudge. My Vitara gets labelled as a hairdressers car but the other week it went up Chapel Gate whilst a Jeep and a Defender both got stuck.

took 3 ****rovers up stanage last year
one ended up going home on the back of a breakdown truk
second one split his diff peed oil out all the way home
the 3rd actually made it
as for the JIMNY it just walzted up  8)

amazing motor, whereas the TD5 disco i have now is a lovely car but not much use off road, particulary laning because of its size and weight, but it does tow the caravan a damn sight better!

This Rangie out with us yesterday is stuck - OK a couple of carefully placed waffles and a few attempts and hes away again. As you can see its not a std vehicle, 35" Simex, suspension to suit, 6.2 V6 Diesel engin etc. I had just driven through in front and got up without any probs. I'm not wanting to Landy bash, there are situations that this Rangie or a disco or whatever will make look easy, but my Jimny just won't tackle. Different situations suit different vehicles for better or worse - but don't write Jimny's off for their off road capability; I think they will become more popular in the next few years, taking over from the SJ even.

Glagg's Jimny is scary top watch and does quite often astound onlookers. i regularily go out laning with Mark and another mate who drives a jimny and think they are cracking.
I seem to remember having yours attached to mine on Sat though :wink:
