nice new big intercooler

Hello All

I know if you spend lots of money on a nice new big intercooler from the likes of allard? Etc it will increase torque but what if you put two standard intercoolers together doubling the cooling area will this do the same job? I know the piping might be a bit messy but will it work? The only problem I can think off might be the increase in turbo lag due to the increased air track. Does anybody else have info on this.

All the best

You hit the nail bang on the head - pressure drop. You can take a standard intercooler and smooth the edges of and it'll improve performance ('gas-flowing' it's termed), so imagine the issues when threading two togther. This why intercoolers get bigger or thicker, and not more numerous.

fitting an intercooler (or two) on its own wont necessarily do a lot for performance unless u increase the fueling as well to make make the most of all of that lovely extra air.

been there

And thats a fair point, too!

well,ya see,on an audi S3 it is fitted with 2 intercoolers & has roughly 8 feet o pipework before the air actually reaches the throttle body, there will be a drop inpressure but i wouldnt hve thought it would have been much,if so fit a bigger turbo
