What's it worth?????
« on: January 10, 2007, 21:54:15 »
Hi

Through my work i get to travel to remote places around lincolnshire on Monday i went to a farm doing a delivery and my eyes were drawn to a little series sitting lonely in the corner.
"Ahh... Morning, I see you looking at the old girl are you intrested?"
You know thats' the question you want and then the realisation hits you, when you try to justify it to your Mrs what the reply will be.
"How much i replied?" walking around looking for faults. We agreed that I'd go back in my own time and I'd give it a good look but at a quick glance what i saw is:
1976 SWB (van)
2.25 Diesel
4 Speed, no O/D
Very good chassis
Good tidy body
Solid foot wells
Starts and runs fine (yet to drive and test 4wd etc)
No tax
No test seats tatty and ripped
Tow bar with electrics (don't know if they work)
What else should i check for and what is she worth (my mrs will see this so help me out)

Thanks all

I bought mine in a condition similar to that but fitted with O/D and paid £620 off Ebay. Pay no attention to my list i bought the Landy as a van originally. It had 4 months MOT and no tax.

Hi

The springs do look like they need doing and i do have a set of 11 leaf fronts would just need rears.
As O/D's go for £200+ I'd want to be looking at £400 down?

No tax, No test,  - technically it's a scrapper. There could be any amount of faults that will cost a load to put right for the MOT - if there weren't then why has he not done them himself and put it up for sale with a full MOT and a advertised it for a grand?

Offer him £200 max. If it's no good you can always break it for parts and get your money back

Hi ed,

Don't forget also that with no tax, you can't drive it back from where it is, so budget for trailer hire, £60-100 depending on how long you borrow it for.

As said, could have any amount of problems. I don't know anything about the 2.25 diesel so you're guess is as good as mine with the engine. Springs n shocks (and u bolts) are cheap from Paddocks, around £20 for springs. Don't forget tyre conditions, something quite often overlooked, it all costs money.

I'd be wary of the brakes and probably clutch, possibly gearbox, how long has it been sat there? Always test drive and ensure high/low/4wd all work, though with no tax or test, you can't really (not legally anyway).

Series IIIs come and go, so unless you plan to do it up and sell, and you can get it for £200, £300 tops, I would leave it. If you're going for it to keep, make damn sure there's not much wrong with it, Series IIIs are plentiful, and 1976 is an OLD Series III, you could get one sub £1000 that can be up to 1984.

Did you get the reg?
If so visit this site, type in the reg and it will effectively tell you when last taxed.

Hi

I suppose for 200 sheets i could use it for a coil sprung project although a LWB cut down looks more probable
