I had a drive in one of those whe I did a course with the Met. The Met ones were all V8's and the one I went in had a big sticker on the dash, saying "Do not exceed 40Mph, as the brakes may not function".

Fantastic psychology on the part of the MT section... brakes are fine... but drivers don't know that!

LOL I take it when you filled out the driver log it said, "please throw grappling hook out of the window to stop!"
We had an old rover 400 once, thee was a problem with the throttle and it was so slow... on the log sheet it said at the top "Low powered vehicle" some one had written beside it "Your not kidding"
I remember on the way to an RTA one of the response drivers trying to accelerate on blue lights down the bypass  its become a bit of a legend as he never made it above 40 mph, I overtook him in a Corsa, he never lived it down.
The car was disposed of not long after that.

Just before I moved down here, I went to see a friend of mine who works for the Landy dealer in Norwich showed me some piccys that he had taken of a 90 from the local RAF base.
The 90 had been recovered by the main dealer for 'expert analysis' after a couple of RAF erks had 'mysteriously lost control' of it on the icy main runway one night and rolled it, writing it off.
The 'expert analysis' found that the handbrake lever was on. The conclusion was that the silly boys had tried a handbrake turn in the 90, which objected and decided to roll over!
They got out alive, and I think they were done for misuse of Air Force property.

This was a dark green one. We did check it out, but it was all legit, which in a way was a shame, as it would have given us a bit more to put to them. The driver had a receipt for it, for about 5K, which was most amusing, as it ended up in the shape of a 3ft square box!
Most of the Scoobys that were being nicked were used as getaway cars for ramraids, but again I think the players for that were picked up, after saying hello to the business end of an MP5, coutersey of Messers Heckler and Koch.
