Chequer plate - can you paint it?

It is possible to do it but you would have to really be careful prepping it making sure that you sand right into each nook and cranny. I would use scotchbrite (like a brillo pad) and then etch prime and then use normal auto paint of your choice on that. ALthough the easiest way is anodizing and it will look a lot better. That is what the black check plate is, it is not painted.
 Anodizing can be described as staining the metal.
  Costing is really down to your local place as they are all over the place pricewise. If it is small bits they can put them in with other stuff but the colours are not as varied as paint.
  BTW, I am a painter!

if you are going to paint, after all of the above pre paint advice (which for once everyone seems to agree on) use hammerite, smoooth or hammered, it is the hardest wearing 'paint' on the market, that is why it is slightly dearer than anything else.

I used hammerite special metal primer and a matt black paint for re painting BBQ’s. I purchased both from my local DIY store. My chequer plates have been fine for nearly twelve months now despite loads of off road use.

Johnty painted my chequer plate load liner for me, etching primer first then spray on hammerite I think......looks very good too :wink:
