Buying a Disco2

<< < (2/2)

Jimbo:
XS spec:

Half leather seats
4 x electric windows
2 x manual sunroofs (might be factory option to electrics)
Cruise control (if its an auto)
Climate control (posh aircon)
Heated front screen
Heated rear screen
High-line stereo (2 speakers in all four doors, tweeters in 'A' post trims, subwoofer in rear door)
Electrically adjustable & heated mirrors - but they dont all electrically fold in !
Reversing sensors (beeps faster as you get closer to things !)

Think thats about it, I've got an XS and have all the above - and it stacks up with the spec sheet I have. But bear in mind that when the vehicle was originally ordered, some extras (leccy roofs etc) may have been spec'd.

Moneypit:
I've got a manual 51 pre facelift Td5 XS, spec is as above except:

I fitted Cruise Control from a kit supplied by Discoparts £50 and 40 mins to fit.
I don't have heated front windscreen. I believe the wiring is in place, I would just need to buy the switch and the windscreen and get the functionality switched on by someone with a Testbook.
Manual Sunroofs.
Powerfold door mirrors, manually activiated by flipping the direction switch down.
Don't have reversing sensors.

I have had major problems with mine.

New Engine - caused by the oil pump cog falling off, well documented fault.
New Turbo - caused by above.  Hoses had to be replaced 3 months before.  LR met half the costs of repair as a Goodwill gesture.
New Gearbox - a freak fault apparently, shaft sheared between 4th/5th and reverse.  The mechanic had only seen it once before and then was caused by someone reversing up a very steep hill whilst off road.  I was on M1 doing 70!! - Repaired under warranty.
The bushes were replaced by the dealer, just before the warranty ran out.
I think the alt was just one of those things.
Battery - 1. one of the terminals had corroded off. 2. Was replaced prior to identifying the faulty Alt.

The rest have been minor faults.

However she has been trouble free for 10 months.

I'm still glad I've got her.

Be aware that spare prices can be higher. I've just broken a handbrake cable on mine and the cost for cable only (not including fitting) is £92!!
Bit of a shock compared to prices I'm used to paying on the tdi, having said that it's a much nicer car to use every day, especially the auto ES

My dad's got a 2000 W reg disco td5 gs millennium edition, is it the same spec as the xs as it all sounds about the same?
