Hopefully a simple question

<< < (2/3) > >>

welshlaner:
I think that the 2a box is stronger, had a 2a then a S3 never really need to change down that much, and if did learnt how to double-dee cluch

Rich_P:
The Series 2A gearbox is stronger than the early Series 3 Gearbox.  The Series 3 gearbox was uprated at some point in the very late seventies or early eighties.

moggs:
2a gearbox syncro on 3rd and 4th gear only.
the later 1 ton or six clyinder gearbox has a bigger bottom layshaft and is strongest of the 2a ones.
the series 3 box can be a bit delicate in some situations but has snycros on all gears except reverse.   the later six cly gearbox is stronger again in build and shaft size to.
hope this helps ?

iianorthants:
the main differance is that a series 2 box has a different clutch release system also so if changing boxes to newer model U need to replace clutch plate aswell, on the series 2 the bearing is attached to centre of the clutch plate.
also worth changing the the little brass bush in middle of flywheel while box off as worn ones cause a lot of whineing and gearbox rumble.

fool hardy:
Cheers for all the help. I'll give it a go with the standard gear box for now. You never know, I might get on fine with it.
