I think that there are fewer 'cos all the old traditionalists have yet to embrace the electrickery that is utilised in the D2. If it can't be fixed by bashing it with a big hammer then it's not for them

I may be getting rid of mine. I tested a D3 the other day and as soon as I can afford one I am jumping over to full electickery!

I reckon it's down to the fact that D1s are bargain basement prices these days... if you're going to go and scratch up your motor, you might as well not do it on an expensive car!

i think discovery 1's will always be popular choice :) i bet most people in this club owns a discovery we should do one of those poll things to found out who owns what. :D

It could be a cost issue too
If i had a D2 i *might* not off road it.

I like disco 1 as it doesnt have all the elektrikery gizmos and the offroading is made to be more driver skill than HDC and traction control etc. It is just closer to the old fashioned series landy but with more comfort and speed.

I love the series landies and owned 2 of them and would still love 1 now its just they cant do what i need them to do for my voluntary work and a defender is more money than a disco 1

I have a 300tdi and I get normally around the mid to low 20's I think. depends if I tow anything or have off road tyres on and if I do 60mph on a motorway or not.

That has set the bench mark for v8's and td5's to easily beat!!!

I get, on average, 24mpg. That's with over sized mud tyres on.

Best I've ever got is 29mpg, worst 19 (in the 2 years that I've been keeping records).

you are wrong there matt mine was out in 1989 which is 17/18 years which is older than a small percentage of the members

mine gets from 25-30, td5 s2 none face lift

steves (my brother sparkes) get slightley more and his is a td5 s2 face lift, His goes slightley better than mine (he says it not chipped but i think its has from the last owner).

Both our discos have about the same miles on the clock and he does longer runs than me.

The only differance between fuel bills are . I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY DERV :(bigcry):

Mud went off road at 1 year old and still going strong.

HI,

i bought my V8 series II discovery specifically to go off roading - i chose it over a discovery series I because it is also my usual vehicle and i loved the electronic gadgets (confirmed technofreak) and the comfort level was much better than the I.

the only ONLY thing that i don't like about it is the fact that if i am lucky, going downhill with the wind pushing me, i still only get 15 mpg on a really good day :shock:

i have been surprised at the amount of people who don't see the series II as a serious offroader (i suppose a bit like me and the DIII) but i have seen these things do amazing stuff when i was in australia.

I dont work it out, but i get 450 miles to a tank without driving too steady, i dont do much in the way of long runs, just 10 miles each way to work and back down country lanes. Its a TD5 facelift.

Loads better on fuel than the jimny LMAO !
