Quick Questions....
« on: December 22, 2006, 11:41:45 »
Hey all
Would just lie to ask a few questions and rather seperating them into seperate posts would put them all as one! Here we go....
Firstly I have smashed the front sunroof and can't really find a replacement without traveling miles away... would perspex and sealent do the job or is it best to get glass??
Also i have the start of a snorkel and now need about 1metre of flexi tubing.. and ideas where i can get some?? and what could i use to join it to the drain pipe?
And can anoyone advise me how to sort out my broken fag lighter.. it has the fuel pump swith on it so will that be draining its power? I have yet to get a multimeter :?
Also the heater does not really heat up so was wondering what i could do to improve it? It blows cold on all three speeds and makes a strange squeaking noise ?
How hard is it to put the late discovery 2 lights on my discovery 1990??
I think that will do for now
Merry christmas all!

Well if your not going to tell the truth be like that, but don't expect an honest answer.

If the squeak is only when the fan is on then its either a bearing or the fan touching somthing as it spins round so a repair there will be needed.

I assume it only blows cold when the engine is up to temperature. The may be a blockage in the engine cooling system or the control thermostate permenantly closed preventing hot water flowing to the heat exchanger inside the heater unit.

Ebay or sodbury sort out best for sunroof how on earth did you break a sunroof I managed to roll a disco at 70mph and not break the sunroofs! they sold for £60 on e-bay. You could probably rob a sun roof glass off of something else at a breakers i.e. austin montego or rover very similar early disco's had standard off shelf britax sun roofs.

Put a piece of cardboard on disco rad, to reduce air flow this will reduce the cooling efect of the current cold conditions. Or you could get a rad muff! Kits available for front lights £250 from paddocks i think? so should not be too difficult it will be the welding to pull the inner wings back together that will be the difficult bit!
Electric pump off cigarette lighter will draw a fair current, not had much to do with V8 or mpi discoveries I am affraid. no tips for that.

Best to sort electrics out first if petrol discovery before fitting snorkel.

I got mine from ebay.  Its like a plastic grill with no vents that fits over the existing grill.

Stops a fair ammount of mud from hitting the radiator, was the best few quid I ever spent!

It depends how professional a rad muff you want, we used an old plastic feed bag to partially cover the rad on an old series 3 we used to have. cheap effective and recycling at the same time  .

For the RRC I plan to cut a pice of tin the right size to side down between the rad and the body monocoque to keep the rad clean when wading.
