Any recommendations for dampers on a Freelander?

Are they easy to change?

i just fitted monroe gas shocks with new std springs at 125k miles and it has made a terific differance in ride quality and also gained 1" lift by doing this but you can also fit the 2" lift kit at the same time along with taller tyres, you will find car unstopable in 99% of any green lanes, good luck, job should take about half a day or less? with good kit 8)

Ours has just passed 45000 miles on what I assume are original shocks. While it was in having a few minor faults sorted at the local independant LR specialist, they noted that the shocks looked 'worn' (whatever that means!). I now have the lift kit, so I'll take a look at the skocks before fitting this. If they need doing, it would make sense to do it all at the same time.

How are the shocks bought? Are they inserts or complete struts?

The moneypit is abandoned in the workshop. I've sort of lost interest as I'm sure you can understand. It's all a bit depressing. I really must get back on to it. Just need to build up enthusiasm again!

Sarah is at home this week. Hasn't she phoned you yet? I'll give you a call later and get the details if that's alright with you. She hasn't got any excuses then..... women, eh, what can you do with them?!!  :roll:   :lol:

shocks prob need changing after 100k as they may be a bit softer by then and give more roll on the corners and by then you can grab the roof bars and push the car side to side and then compare them with a newish one, with owners permission of course to test damping etc. even at 127k miles, mine still did not leak oil, shocks can be bought minus springs.

Oh, with that advice, I think we will leave well alone. The car has only done 45k of road miles and a little off road in our ownership.
