I would be very grateful if anyone could give me the cylinder heads bolt torque and toqueing sequence for the early TD 5 engine please. I beleive there is a difference in BHP between the first TD5's and the later ones. Do not know if the required torques are different though.
I have a head from another engine which I would like to install on my current motor (cracked head). As a precaution I would like to have the replacement given a very light skim to ensure proper installation. Would this be advisable seeing that these heads are heat treated. Your advice, once again is appreciated.

Same for early and late engines....

Stage 1 - 30 Nm (23 lbf.ft)
Stage 2 - 65 Nm (48 lbf.ft)
Stage 3 - a further 90

Just make sure you use the correct head gasket too.... will be the same thickness as the one your old engine - thickness is dependent on piston protrusion (not head)

Is the 'new' head the same age as your existing engine?? - EU2 and EU3 are not interchangeable AFAIK.

Also make sure you fit the later metal dowels.... rather than plastic.

And use new head bolts (new ones are also prelubricated - so don't use addtional oil)

Not really... but both EU2 and EU3 (post 2002) engines are easily tuned for more power!!!  :wink:

I was just putting both points across - a case of try it and see... it might work, or it might go wrong.

Turbine... just check the heads flat and in good condition - if you do have skimmed just have the absolute minimum off... but is at your own risk  :wink:

Thank you very much Ian and Mike. Finished the install and she is going very nicely. Did not reply straght away as I just took down the gen. and rushed off this morning to ensure I had everything according to your specs. Didn't have to skim the head as she was pretty good. Once again thank, you your help is very appreciated. Have a good christmas.
