PAS Pump Pulley

Guy90:
Anyone got any idea how I can lock this off so I can undo the bolts that retain the pulley to the pump. It just spins round when I try to undo them and nothing grip on.

Any tips for getting the fan off as well will be gratefully received. It also just spins round (there used to be a hole on the 200s which you could jam a screwdriver in. Nothing on the 300).

Thanks.

muck_truck:
i did it by putting a ring spanner on one of the other bolts and using that as a wedge for the socket to lean on while you undo it with a ratchet. then move along to next one.

does that make sence? a bit had to explain without a pic

a 23 mm spanner and a whack with a mallet will get the viscous fan off, if i remember rightly its a left hand thread.

muck_truck:
one god awfull ms paint drawing showing how undid the pulley bolts.

green are the bolts.
black is the spanner
red is socket and ratchet.

Tried that with a viscous hub spanner. the drive belt snapped so it just spins on itself. Can't see a way to lock it off. It's a bit in the way for changing the pump as is the fan cowling that wont come off without the fan coming off.

Last time I had to do one of those was in the wilds of Namibia.

Leave the serpentine belt on. If the belt's snapped fit the new one. You can actually use a lever on the belt to tighten it some more to hold the pulleys. Undo ALL pulley bolts before removing the belt.

Use the method mud truck shews.
If you can get one screw out. I could, fit a longer screw that will hold the pulley from turning.

When you come to refit everything. Use a thread locking compound on the screw threads. That helps tpo stop the screws rusting in place.

As you have the correct tool for the fan. Can you not hold the "fan shaft" with Mole/Vice grips ??
