Cheers for the info bezzabsa. :)  I understand high and low range gearing :)  What I needed to know was if she could use 4WD on tarmac and you've answered that - cheers mate :)  much appreciated :)

Just in case you don't know and yours is the same set up as my old Trooper. To disengage 4 wheel drive you may have to reverse a little.

Stormin is Correct... To unlock the Auto-Hubs you need to stop , come out of 4L/4H and get into 2WD , You need to reverse back about 1m , you'll actually hear the Hubs disengage.

I've had a 2.2 Petrol and now have the 2.4i Petrol .. Quite capable off-road and as it says below, frequently underestimated!!
But saying that, The SWB Sports are even better off-road!!

And as Bezza states, Don't use 4WD on Tarmac, it'll cause "Wind-up" and startgetting expensive!

Plus the Vx Frontera is a Re-badged Isuzu so You're not 100% wrong in posting here! (many parts are interchangable between Troopers and Fronteras!!)
