Frontera Info Please :)

There's no Vauxhall section so I picked this "room"  Soory if I've got it wrong :(

My sister-in-law has just bought a Frontera and wants to "see what it's like off-road" :) so before I go and break it for her, (coz that's what usually happens) I thought I'd find out a bit about them.  :)

It's a 1997 2 litre petrol, LWB

What kind of 4 wheel drive system has it got?  I know it has selectable 2 wheel, 4 wheel high and 4 wheel low, but does it have a centre diff and therefore can it be driven on tarmac in 4 wheel high etc

That would imply that it has a transfer box, so no centre diff

LOW range means that Flat out in 4 LOW you'll probably be doing about 15 -20 Mph...they also didnt do a 2.0 litre LWB..2.2 2.4 petrol 2.3 2.5 & 2.8 diesel and the awesome 3.2 V6 petrol too...you have 2WD Hi, 4WD hi and 4WD low...Low is for use Off road when situations are a little 'sticky' 4wd high is for ICY and VERY SLIPPERY situatuions ONLY..DO NOT USE 4WD ON TARMAC AS IT WILL CAUSE 'WIND UP'
wife has a 2.3 Lwb running on Bio diesel..

Cheers for the info bezzabsa. :)  I understand high and low range gearing :)  What I needed to know was if she could use 4WD on tarmac and you've answered that - cheers mate :)  much appreciated :)

Just in case you don't know and yours is the same set up as my old Trooper. To disengage 4 wheel drive you may have to reverse a little.

Stormin is Correct... To unlock the Auto-Hubs you need to stop , come out of 4L/4H and get into 2WD , You need to reverse back about 1m , you'll actually hear the Hubs disengage.

I've had a 2.2 Petrol and now have the 2.4i Petrol .. Quite capable off-road and as it says below, frequently underestimated!!
But saying that, The SWB Sports are even better off-road!!

And as Bezza states, Don't use 4WD on Tarmac, it'll cause "Wind-up" and startgetting expensive!

Plus the Vx Frontera is a Re-badged Isuzu so You're not 100% wrong in posting here! (many parts are interchangable between Troopers and Fronteras!!)
