Does anyone know if they are any good off road and parts availability etc as i  have fell in love with their looks , but are they any good? what engines do they come with? and how reliable are they?

just seen your post.
fj40s are the real thing.better the 4230 2f petrol engine or 3000 diesel if its your only vehicle.pay 1k for one that needs restoring or around 10k for the mutts nuts.all parts are available from over the pond within 3-5 days.check out sor.com or man-a-fre.anything else email me anytime.

The 40 series is the ultimate 'Toy' for playing but bear in mind its age... better a BJ40 with the diesel lump if you want to pass a fuel station. Parts available from the US and Europe without too much trouble. The Us do complete GRP tubs to replace rusting originals. Suggest you visit ih8mud.com   and  TLCA.org
