I have a 93 diesel manual rr when changing down into 2 gear it crunches the gear even if you double de clutch i think the syncro might have gone.
Has anyone had to repair a gearbox like this and whats involved in this.
Is it worth while to just live with it? have checked oil level in box and this is fine.

Hi there,

My 94 RRC does the same thing, crunches going up or down,
I am just living with the problem right now.
I find that if you change gear slowly, the crunching does not happen.
Slowly as in moving the gear lever slowly from 1st to 2nd or visa versa.

Cheers,

Ron.

Slowly works... as in... Clutch in... pressure (not a whack) on the gear lever.... cogs slow to a speed where they match.... and in it slips... !

No good if you need to change gear in a hurry!

IF 'twere me... I'd be paying Ashcroft a visit with £300 or so for a reckon box.

I've had 2 like that, the R380 is a better box but I'm thinking of going Auto next.
