Tyre info from an inside source...

<< < (3/4) > >>

V8MoneyPit:
I just spoke to my tyre wholesaler and he said that it was Continental Tyres that are pushing for a change. They did a lot of research with MIRA and have found a *huge* difference in tyre performance between 1.6mm and 3mm. He suggests it's only a matter of time before it comes into force.

Here's the Continantal page:
http://www.conti-online.co.uk/generator/www/uk/en/continental/portal/general/safety/3mmtread_en.html

And the Rospa one:

Mudlark:
If you're off-roading tyre treads below 5mm are pretty useless anyway so <3mm shouldn't make any difference to us really should it

mmgemini:
I had an off a month or so ago.The stone bridge won???

I had 4to6 mm on my tyres. The tyres were shot.No grip in the wet.

Four new tyres sorted the job.

muddyweb:
I thought the minimum depth had been increased to 2mm some time ago... not 1.6 ?

Maybe I dreamt it  :?

fatusbloke:
Be nice to see hgv min tread depth incresed from 1mm as well,
As regards ATS etc always found that they're always on the make,
go in for 1 tyre, and suddenly your car's a death trap needing new brakes exhaust more tyres etc etc etc etc   :x  :x
