Hi all, Can someone help ? last sunday my rev cointer stoper working and when you take the key out of the igniton (engine stop) the charge light stayes on..I have been toled it might be the altinator.
It is a 1989 classic R R 3.5 efi auto..
Thanks Paul................

The rev counter uses the connection marked 'w' on the alternator, check this wire?
The light staying on is possibly a diode in the alternator, have been told there are 9 in total.
Mine now runs a 93 Fiesta diesel alt. You have to part strip it and turn the mounting brackets and swap the pulley, but it was free from a neighbor breaking his van   but you can pick one up from the scrappers for £10-£15. cheap fix if you got the time and a few tools

What amps?
Too many lights now

Range Rover Blues:
I've got a 65 amp 'spare', they fetch around £35.

I have a 100 amp that needs the mounting lug re-attaching so you could have that for the same.  Your big problem is running a big alternator from the standard Vee belt, an 80 amp is a trial for it.  I fit a 675x13mm belt rather than 675x10, fortunately Halfrauds stock the thicker belt in just the right size.
