P38 fuel actuator problem

Had my 1997 RR DSE about 13 months now and its never missed a beat. Lately, sometimes when you change up a gear (usually from 1st to 2nd) theres a slight pause before the revs kick in, and the engine warning light flashes on for a split second. Its been doing it for a couple of weeks but its only caused it to stall once. Sometimes the pause can be a split second, sometimes it can be a couple of seconds (which seems like forever). I took it to my local 4x4 specialist and he got it on the diagnostic test and it came back with (Fuel Actuator Fault). He says i'll have to take it to a diesel specialist and your probably looking at anything from £650 t0 £1000. I believe this is due to the labour charge as its such a big job.

Has anybody else had a problem like this before?

Are they trying to take my pants down?

I've ordered the RAVE disc of ebay to try and shine some light on this so I can picture it myself.

Love my RR but can't afford repair bills like that. First decent car I've had after been on this dodgey planet for 38 years.

Any help or info would be much app..

do you mean chipped? if so ,no.
everything is std on RR.

I'm at a loss as to what a Fuel Actuator Fault is....

In meantime, have a read here - might be worth doing your own test.

Yeh, I've read this one. And i'm not sure i'm up to it. If i have to i'll give it a try.

The guy explained the fault to my wife so i'm not sure how much of the conversation she wants to remember.

The fault is in the fuel injection pump and needs to be stripped down, replacing this "actuator" which i assume is some kind of electronic control module, but i'm lead to believe that the labour intensive bit is taking of and striping the pump and replacing it. I've been told by a mate that i might be as well buying a replacement pump off a scrapper, the newer the better. Whats your thoughts?
