My father-in-law & myself went to have a look at a 'winter project' this morning across the Pennines at Delph, a few miles north-east of Oldham.

We think it's a bit much for us at the moment, even though it's complete bar the seats.

And, yes, that is a Californian 'Licence Plate'.

Can you guess what it is yet??? :lol:

It's a Californian (now re-imported) '68 MGB Roadster.

It belong to the father-in-law of a work collegue of the wifes, he knew we were looking for something & suggested it.

Sadly, even though it's complete & rot-free, it's too much as a first project.

His other (restored) MGA is in Concourscondition & was apparantly in the same state upon purchase.

Still thinking about an MG, well F-i-L is, I'm going to try & swing him towards a MGB GT-V8 :lol:

A friend of mine has just bought 2 Morris 1000 vans to restore, but he's used to it, as he's got 3 Atkinsons on the go as well at the minute.
One of them is pictured below

My father and I restored a 1969 MGB roadster in the early 90s.  What a job - full of rot that meant that many panels, sills, wings floor etc had to be replaced.

The result was excellent though

I'm still surprised how much adoration an Austin Cambridge engine can gain in a differant body-shell :lol:

I'm glad to know you're still surviving the NHS, & the light at the end of the NHS tunnel will be switched back on someday.


Stefan; Sorry, but I don't think he'll part with it as it took him a LOT of tracking down & then all the time & effort.

Talking to him on Saturday night when he &his wife came round &he's got the idea of buying a box-trailer for it & making a 'Living Van' for the rallies :)

He'll do it as well, one day.

There's a B&W picture of it with the Emergency Winder hitched upon about half-way down this page.
Now that's a BIG winch :lol:

took 2 years,  replaced virtually everything it seemed - the only thing that didnt get overhauled strangley enough was the B series - we took the view that if we couldnt get the body work right rebuilding the engine would had been a waste of time.  Trouble was that when we had done the bodywork excitement overcome us so we just put the engine in as it was as we couldnt wait to get out and drive in it!

Bought it for £400 in 91, had failed its mot in 85 thru rot!

sold it last year to a friend in Harlow who uses it dry weekends only. Just sailed thru another MOT with no probs whatsoever.

A great drive it must be said.

If you ever need help with a MGB just ask - havent got the patience to do another restoration but can answer questions!

.......and yes a B series seems to look so much better in an MG than in a sherpa, marina , cambridge ..........etc

I'll ask him next time I see him, but it's certainly seems brighter than 'AA yellow', unless it's with been recently resprayed.

oo yea  i like the old  ATKINSON  (for you lot that dont know the old yella wagon )  i think its a border ?     used to drive one  gardner 180 diesel with a david-brown g-box the days of going deaf and haveing mussles  bit like driveing a bigger s2/3   :lol:  :wink:
