dvla rant aaarrrrgggghhhh

I know this is a silly thing to say about a government department but surely logic says that if a SORN certificate is in place of a TAX disc and the tax goes with the vehicle when you sell it then why does the SORN certificate not do the same.
The logical thing is that if the vehicle is SORNed then that is for 12 months unless it is TAXed before that time.
If you buy a vehicle that is SORNed then when they send the V5 to the new owner it should either state the vehicle is TAXed or the vehicle is SORNed.
Then we all know were we stand, or would that make it so easy that Jo Public will understand it and therefore the government cannot charge him for getting it wrong???

I wish it was that easy, thing is a SORN is you sayinng "I will not be using this car on the road" and signing or whatever.  When you sell the car you are not responsible for that pledge, the new owner is.  Plus the SORN declares the vehicle will be kept off-road, well when you sell it it moves doesn't it?
Tax on the other hand is money in their pocket, so they don't care about checking up then, that's why criminals buy cars with long tax on them.

I always get a receipt from the DVLA when I SORN a vehicle.

not renewing the road tax says exactly the same thing.
Having to sorn it when you do not tax it is a pointless waste of time and effort just designed to make money :(

Tax runs out then car should be assumed to be off road and you can be fined for using it on the road. what is the need for the sorn?
