300 tdi auto box over heat

i have a 300 tdi auto on a P reg that seems to over heat when towing but has no problem on normal driving also takes ages to pull off feels like brake stuck on ive checked brakes all ok any one got any ideas ???

have you checked the park brake on the prop isn't binding? also check the oil level too much oil in will cause an overheat problem

thanks have checked oil and it was way over the top mark and smells very burnt so i have changed oil but will this have damaged my gearbox or converter ?????

providing the clutch packs are not slipping and contributing to the overheating you should be ok
