It had the same effect.  Stupid idea, and thats coming from a sailor.  One of the reasons they used was noise.  I have never had any complaints running my 20 year old seagul outboard (ah british engineering) at 4mph.  And we had to shout to hold a conversation!  :D

Now they rely on ramblers to fund the local economy.  All flasks and no spending, driving home at the end of the day.  Great idea...

I read about Windmere having a speed restriction put on it :( Just crazy.

Southampton Water is 5 knots to Dockhead, then both that and the Hamble and of course the Solent are unrestricted. Solent might be a lil choppy for a fletcher though, I've done it in a 15ft Cathedral Hull and it was a bit more bouncy than I would like :)

I take mine on the Menai straights, relativly enclosed, interesting and the speed limits are only in certain areas.

There are a few public slips, some now charge 5 or 10 quid and require insurance, I know of at least one free and there is a guy who wil launch from a tractor for you for 12 quid so you don't dunk the car in sea water.
