starter motor problems
« on: October 15, 2006, 20:35:49 »
Hi, my mates having some trouble with his starter motor on his 19eighty something rangie (i know its old but thats about it!) I took the ignition barrel apart and tried to hotwire it as it was clicking when you turned the key but no luck. I also tried rocking it forward in gear incase the starter was jammed but no luck, is it a knackered starter??

Hi
Try putting a live from the battery to the live on the solonoid(thinner live feed), If it turns then it ok(problem in ignition switch), if not.... then it broke..
You could also check for power to solonoid when ignition is switched
Hope This helps

If you look on the passenger side in the engine bay mounted on the bulkhead is a relay that is for the solinoid this packed up on me and all i got was the clunk. changed it for a normal 30amp relay and it worked great
