hi just got my first landrover series3 have found one rear brake problem osr locks onder heavy braking looks like wrong wheel cilinder is fitted ns has 1 stamped on it but the os that has the problem has 1 1/2 stamped on it . will have to sort this but the rest seems ok.

I'm glad to hear you've got a Landy.  I hope she serves you well.  I think you'll have to accept a certain number or "modifications" to any series.  I suggest you get one of the green workshop manuals as soon as you can as it will come in mighty useful forever!

what is the green work shop manual i hav a haynes314 . also what is does the numbers stamped on the wheel cylinders mean

I cant help you with the numbers at the moment.  But here is a link to the manuals on Amazon, the top one is the one my dad has for the series 3.

will bring it out to play. have parts to fix brakes but will have to do it saterday am besause its always dark when get home from work.
ps its off road toy only, to slow for day to day work run 40 miles!

ps it ant nakered, runs good and not full off holes mot'ed and tax'ed just need to change brake cilinder :D

Colin,
Does it have dual line servo brakes or is it an earlier model? There is a particular way of bleeding the brakes on later dual line models that I only found out after much swearing and tring to get it to stop in a straight line beacause of the balance valve. I suppose I should have read the manual first not after.
Give me a shout when you're up and running, I am only down the road in Luton.

not sure bit think its early one but one wheel cilinder has1 stamed on it the other has 1 1/2  so one is wrong belive 1 is the correct unit .

Paddocks are great for getting the right bits sorted for you. If no servo bleeding much easier. NSR - OSR - NSF - OSF

thanks got wheel cilinder localy deerer £12 but just need to fit it then re paint her. may go dove grey but will see as origonal paint faded badly

Colin,

Series wheel cylinders are outwardly the same front and rear with the 10" drums, the difference being that the fronts have a bigger bore (1 1/2"?) and the rears a smaller one, so you get more braking effort at the front.

You probably have a front cylinder fitted to the back.

my drive looks to full
due to s3 , jimny , camper and trailer. :!:
but will look better when s3 gets new paint job and camper getts moved to friend for winter.
by the whey that s3 looks good and just wish i could find some money for a defender like that

it was quite easy to put the 90 front on just had to get the panel all level then drilled the holes and bolted it all up, also if u want to get the bonnet to sit flat u'll have to cut the top of the series panel
