Budgie:
Another thing to look at is the sedimentor on the inside of the chassis on rear offside.
Also, I've heard people having a leak in the fuel pickup pipe on top of the fuel tank. The pipe rusts through an causes it to suck air into the fuel. You can access this through the rear floor (if, unlike me, the inspection plate srews havn't rusted in place!  :roll: ).

Cal:
the sedimenter seems OK to me - the fuel runs out fine when the tap is opened, but I'm not too sure how to tell if any of the pipes are corroded to it.

I've had a look at the pipes on the sender unit under the hatch (I had to grind the bolts off!) and covered them in vaseline to see if this would help and it didn't seem to make any difference so I assumed they were OK, though I am thiinking of getting a whole new sender unit plus commections to rule it out.

is the EGR still connected?

Mine was seriously gut less over 50mph and then a nice person undid the electrical conections so the flap inside never opened or something or other  and since then it is a new car over 50mph and it is hard to hold it back.

This may not be the source to the problem but it could be a possible way around it.

I see, on the LR4x4 thread, that you've put a larger intercooler on it. Has the injector pump's fueling been altered to cater for this?
If not then this could be one problem that only takes 2 minutes to sort.  :wink:

Should have mentioned that one earlier shouldn't I!

I have given the pump a bit of a tweak, but not the full job - but what I mean is it's got worse since then anyway and is still sluggish even with fuelling turned up.

Thanks for the suggestion James, but I've already blanked off the EGR valve anyway. (By the way, I've got some HD springs for sale which might help with your caravan towing  :wink: )

I've been thinking for a while that even though I love my disco I can't really afford to run it so think I'm going to have to sell it/trade it in for a normal car and then get a cheap mud monster when I can.  :(
