Top end power loss

(1/2) > >>

Cal:
I feel like my disco is lacking some power at the moment - seems OK off the mark but it seems to struggle to get over 60mph or keep its speed up a slope that it used to be fine on.

It's recently had new filters, one new injector, new lift pump, a good once over and the pipes from the sender unit seem OK.

Wht else should I check? I'm thinking maybe get all injectors checked but am worried it could be something worse.

Thanks

Budgie:
Are you getting turbo boost, ie: can you hear the turbo working and do you feel anything at around 1700-2000 rpm?
If not then there is a small "C" clip that holds the actuator arm of the turbo to the waste gate in the exhaust manifold. You can't actually see it but (with the engine cold!!) put your hand under the exhaust manifold and feel for the arm to make sure it's connected.

The only other thing I can think of is the vaccum pipe from the turbo to the top of the injector pump, if this is split or not connected then you won't be getting full fuel to the injectors, causing a loss of power.

Hi Budgie,

Thanks for the reply - I'm definitely getting the turbo spinning up and you can feel it kick in, so I will check all the hoses over the weekend.

Horness:
Cal - what fuel are you using?

I found similar problems when I was running on supermarket fuel, which I know people say is the same as main brand, but while on it my Disco was best described as gutless.

A service, some injection cleaner, and swapped over to Esso (local garage to me) and it's been fine ever since.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hi Horness,

I have noticed a difference with different fuels before as well - normally run on Shell with some Millers PowerPLus in, but in this tank I've got BP fancy diesel - the one that's meant to make them run better!

Maybe it's too refined for a landy...
