OK, so I've had the front wheels balanced, but I'm still getting wheel wobble at about 55mph. I've recently renewed the bearings, (about 6 mths ago), what else can cause this????

I'm using the Goodyear Wranger 235x85x16 on modulars.

are the wheel bearing tight, jack the car up with the wheel off the ground and see if it will rock from side to side

Yes, I re-packed them with grease a few months back too:-)

Check the radius arm bushes and all other suspension bushes.

I was getting wheel wobble between 40 to 50 mph a while back, tried everything - turned out it was a UJ on the way out on the front prop :roll:

its still worth having a look as mine worked them selves slightly loose before

If you have a steering damper, have a look at the bushes

:( I had a similar fault it turned out that most of the bearing's had gone in the front diff!!! mind you 250,000 miles without ever coming out or any work on them!! :)

I had a problem, took a while to find it but it was a slightly buckled wheel.

i have the same problem. so far between myself and bullfrog these are the things that have been checked,

both props rebuilt
both swivels rebuilt with new bearings and seals
wheel balance checked , wheels revolved around the truck
wheels changed for borrowed set
rear wheel bearings changed
new shocks
tracking checked ( 6mm out )

im sure ive done more.

the next thing is to have a look at all the bushes on the truck. ive been at this for 8 months now, and it passes an mot with no problems......

so theres a few things to check anyway

Take a close look at your engine/gearbox mounts Den ;-)

Also try some normal road tyres - it shocks me the number of people who confuse the loose feel of muds on tarmac at 50-60mph with a problem.....

I have a set of perfectly balanced MT's on the RR at the moment and it has speeds that are "wobbly", but I know it is the tyres. Switch back to the road tyres and I guarantee smoothness again and actual handling too!

cheers mate.will look at them next........ i can physicaly see my bonnet going up and down ....... its that bad :shock: :shock: :shock: it kicks in at about 55mph. but its not all the time...comes and goes :roll: :roll: :roll:

The bonnet on the Discovery floats. They all do that. Mine popped up at 70mph on the M1/M6 junction. I had to cross 5 lanes to get to the hard shoulder and I couldn't see!!

3 days later I hat bonnet pins.

Damn lucky it didn't break the screen.

A mate of mine had that happen with a Scoob and it went straight into the windscreen showering him with glass, but he was at the business end of 120 at the time!

im fitting bonnet pins to the 90 as i need to junk the catch & other junk to get my intercooler in :lol:

I've got exactly the same problem (wheel wobble at 55 - 60). Everything was fine until I swapped the front left wheel for the spare (it had a rip in the sidewall and i was going to get it fixed the next day). As soon as I hit 55 with the spare on (same tyre, rim, etc and balanced) I got the wobble, so I got it re-balanced and it didn't cure the problem. :?

After reading this post, I think it might be a slightly buckled rim (I'll get it checked out tomorrow and let you know).

It's probably the tyres themselves

I have the same problem with wranglers and know other who spent months trying to sort it out - changed the tyres to Goodrich MTRs - the vibration went away!

I've been having that with the LSE, i found ProComps helped but I ended up chaning the air springs.

Mine are 235/85 R16 BFG Trac Edge's. (when I said the same tyre size etc, I meant the same as the other 4 on the Landy).
