How do you get the speedo apart?
« on: September 22, 2004, 20:52:31 »
My speedometer and odometer have packed up and I took it all out of the dash today to explore the insides for an obvious fault.  However I can't get it apart, does the glass screw off?  Anybody ever got one apart?

Cheers

Graham

I had to do this a while back because the green lens had broken off inside leaving poor illumination. I couldn't work it out other that prising off the ring that retains the glass. It is very thin and easy to split so be careful. I did manage in the end though. Then promptly broke the needle!!! Ended up buying a new one. They are not outragously expensive at around £60.

£60 that's a week's wages!  I've seen whole series IIIs for less.

I came to the same conclusion as you, not been brave enough to try prising it off yet though.

Guess I'll keep looking for a second hand one.

PS why do we live in a throw away society?  It must be repairable.

Breaking the needle off mine really sealed its fate. The annoying thing was that it was working. I just couldn't see it at night with the lights broken.

There are companies that will refurb it, but the pricing starts around £45 anyway.
