Bush Tucker Man:

--- Quote from: "thermidorthelobster" ---I'm half way through First Overland - an account of the first overland crossing from London to Singapore
--- End quote ---

Good isn't it??

I bought my copy about 5 months ago, which reminds me, I lent it out about 3 months ago & not seen it since :?

Well...I thoroughly enjoyed the DVD of 'Long Way Round' (daughters bought it for me for Christams), though I never read the book - so I've ordered 'First Overland' from my local library, over t'internet. Aren't libraries fantastic  :D

The Amazon details mentioned that they were sponsored by the BBC (amongst others) - was the film of the trip ever shown? I wonder if there's any chance of seeing that re-issued on DVD

strapping young lad:
the book is more in depth than the dvd for obvious reasons which is why i would recommend the book more than the dvd

the dvd for me actually showed me who charlie was and i wanted to see where they went visually as well as how they described places like the road of bones

strapping young lad:
arrived today

a quick glance through it and it looks bloody fantastic!

thanks for the suggestion

i notice it mentioned a previous expedition that went from london to cape town and back in 4 months..

wonder if that becmae a novel

You want to try a bit of overland on a bike, it is not for the fainthearted I can tell you.
I take my hat off to those two, but they did have support......which is a kind of cop out in my opinion.
I did 3000k+ in 10 days this year in 100 degree heat, and got taken out in Belguim by a Volvo driver.....It ws character building.

Hospitals are better abroad though.
