winches
SteveG:
no where near the levels of an inline brake like the warn XP's. The cone brake is encassed in a cast iron section too which acts as a very good heat sink.
I would 2nd the vote for the Superwinch EP9. You get sealed solenoids, a good 4.6hp motor in a package that's proven to be reliable for a lot less than most offerings. I bought mine with the winch bumper as a package and the winch without wire and fairlead worked out at 325 inc VAT.

--- Quote from: "ibexman" ---i'd go for a superwinch ep9 for the sort of use you are describing. reasonablypriced, cone brake (so could use synthetic rope), good quality.

BTW dom, have u seen how a cone brake works?
My 12k has one & in reality you "could" heat the drum up lowering out :?

hardly generates heat at all, ive reguarly powered out over 70 ft down hills on comps with mine and me winch b**** told me it was hardly warm
perfect for use with syn rope
or get a husky and forget about heat build up
