no where near the levels of an inline brake like the warn XP's. The cone brake is encassed in a cast iron section too which acts as a very good heat sink.

I would 2nd the vote for the Superwinch EP9. You get sealed solenoids, a good 4.6hp motor in a package that's proven to be reliable for a lot less than most offerings. I bought mine with the winch bumper as a package and the winch without wire and fairlead worked out at 325 inc VAT.

BTW dom,have u seen how a cone brake works?

My 12k has one & in reality you "could" heat the drum up lowering out :?

hardly generates heat at all, ive reguarly powered out over 70 ft down hills on comps with mine and me winch b**** told me it was hardly warm
perfect for use with syn rope
or get a husky and forget about heat build up  :lol:

the bridge isnt sealed tho  :shock:  still lets loads o c*** in and the motor and gearbox reguarly bungs up on mines so it a strip down job every time its been submerged....but then everyone should be stripped after bein under water for a length of time...or under mud when stuck  :oops:
or else it goin come back and bite u on the bum when u least expect it  :lol:
