RE4R03A clutch plates
« on: September 18, 2006, 17:59:49 »
Hi All,

Im upgrading the valve plate on my RE4R03A to one from Wholesale Automatics (http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/release.asp?NewsId=19197) in readyness for a Safari Turbo & Intercooler from APS (http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/safari/turbo/td42_gq/turbo.html) to fit my 1989, TD42, Y60 LWB Safari.

I will probably also install a lock-up kit for the torque converter (either home-made or shop bought (http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/release.asp?NewsId=12101)

Now the question is, do I need to do anything to the clutch plates in the box? I guess I could either put more plates in (probably after some machining) or search for an aftermarket cage capable of taking more plates from somewhere ... But really do I need to worry about this? I'm doing this work so that I can tow a heavy trailer all around Europe including up and down the Alps. I do go off road whenever possible but it's never gonna be an ultra off roader.

Whilst on the subject I really fancy putting a PCS TCU  (http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/content-4.html) into the mix, has anyone every tried / got experiance of this product?

Cheers All,

Des
