Rivnuts !

<< < (3/5) > >>

Jimbo:
Sorry, should have made it clearer in previous post. The outside of the guard (the hinged side) fixes with self-tappers, the other side (the bit you unscrew to hinge the whole lot out the way, to change bulbs etc) is secured with machine screws that screw into Rivnuts.......hence the original question about Rivnut tools   . Looking at the positioning on the truck, the outside (self-tappers) fixings screw into the corner cappings so ST's will be ok, but the other fixings are on flat panels - I guess I could use a nut instead of a Rivnut, but it would be a right PITA. I might order some Rivnuts, but NOT the tool - cos if the bish-bosh method of inserting them works, I'll use them elsewhere on the truck.

Matt,

I think Jimbo might know how to use a self taping screw

I used a normal rivet gun, put the rivnut in the hole and used a long stainless rivet from the back pulled it up with the rivet gun and by time time it snapped off it had pulled the rivnut up tight. cheap and easy
