engine went BANG!!!!!!
« on: September 12, 2006, 02:37:02 »
well what can i say.... my engine as gone BANG

i was driving down the A50 to go to the renault racing at donigton park when out of the blue i heard a tapping from the engine..... OH no i thought this cant be good, i looked down at my dials and saw my temperature gauge creeping up........ OH (EDIT) i thought

i decided to pull over straight away and while i looked in my mirror to make sure it was ok to pull up, i saw a hudge blue cloud of smoke balowing from the exhaust..... i thought thats going to cost

after pulling up i saw water dripping from under the car, after opening the bonnet i saw that the radiator was leeking from a small hole and that there was no coolent left in the system......

well of course i no that having no coolant has made the engine over heat and had done some damage to it, but my thoughts are, how much damage?????

after ringing my dad to come get me out the [PooPoo], he brought loads of water with him, and thus be able for me drive the car home... well i had to stop every 3 miles so i could top the radiator back up, but it did get me home, but there was no sdmoke this time and it didnt drive to badly either... you could tell it wasn't 100% but it was drivable did feel like it was missing maybe on two cylinders when i tryed to go faster......

did a compresion test today to see what sort of affect its had on the engine and none of my cylinders match, but there are in my eyes in working order, except for three of them...... the read out of the cylenders are>>

8> 8.9
7> 9
6> 8.1
5> 8.1
4> 9.75
3> 6.5
2> 9
1> 8.9

as u can see 6, 5, and especaily 3 are down, and for some strange reading 4 is up on compresion.... all of these are ment to be 9.35

well who wants to guess and upset me by telling me what damge has been done!!!!!! and if it unfixable from beliefe......

will let everyone know whats happened in the next few days after i strip her down
I LOVE MUD!!!!!! but my engine doesnt

the smoke could have been steam and the uneven compressions could just mean you need to replace the head gasket ? .. at a guess

i remember blowing up a talbot express and  all the engine contents went everywhere i thought id caught fire  :P  id was a pant filler for a second or two

RRR overheated back in Jan/Feb.  Thought we'd got away with it for months but it came back from the LPG conversion (they had to drive it quite hard) blowing though the head gasket, sounded like a steam train.

Heads warped to bu**ery.  Happens, it's what the tow truck driver said at the outset.

I'm assuming you've got those numbers in the correct order, in which case the lowered compression looks isolated.  Whilst you've got the heads off strip them thoroughly and re-lap the valves.

If you were going to get the heads machined i strongly recomend that you get both of them done by the same amount, To keep compressions equal on each side also the inlet manifold will refit better, Just mt tuppence worth

Hope it is as simple as head gaskets [-o<

well i did say ill let every one know what has happened to my engine when i find out, so here we go......

well lets just say its not that bad but i cant believe how crapped up its got in a small time......
.... well about 700 miles/ 2 months ago, i decieded that my 137,000 mile V8 might need some new parts, well i knew it needed a new head gasket set as i could see water slowly bubbling out of it, so i also replaced the timing chain and gears, lifters, cam, and to give it damb good cleaning...

as you can see from the pictures i got the quite clean, and look at them now!!!!!!!!

well what looks like has happened is that its just over heated and blown the head gasket and wupped the heads by 15 thou... its blown through all the parts of the gaskets including the water ways.... WOW!!!!! it did go BANG!!!!!
