Tiscali Broadband

Over the last 3-4 days I have been experiencing almost dialup speeds   browsing the web, I currently use Tiscali 1Mb Broadband.
This appears only to be happening during the evening, and appears fine in the morning, so my pc and router are working ok.I know that bandwith can be eaten up during busy times, though compared to what I have been used to it is extremely slow.

Is anybody experiencing the same problem :?:

My guess is that in the evening there are lots of people living close to you also accessing broadband. There are only a fixed number of ADSL circuits in an area and in the morning you have exclusive use to them as no one is logged on apart from you. When everybody comes home you have to share these lines with everybody else who is logged on.
If it continues then get onto Tiscali and BT and moan at them. however, they may well come back to you and say that the small print says "up to 1mb" access speed :?

You'll find a "Contention Ratio" somewhere in the paperwork (Or you should)

Often this is 100:1 or 50:1 on the cheaper deals.... you could indeed be getting 10kbps if ALL of you on that line are connected at once!

Or you will find if you just read through the Tiscali terms and conditions that if anyone they condsider is using more bandwith than they think normal then they restrict your bandwith and slow you down during peak times.

I was with tiscali on their "unlimited" broadband getting slow speeds, fair play when i confronted them they let me out the 12 month contract with no penalties, gave me me mac code and let me have the last month i was with them for nowt.

But thats something tiscali and other unlimited people do, its called a fair usage policy, only one i have experienced who didnt have the fair usage policy was in fact aol, whos line was brilliant, only thing was their crappy software which i didnt use anyway!

Connected tonight, with no trouble at all  :D  looked at the Tiscali status web page looks like there has been and will be further engineering work on the Tiscali network, due to packet loss, which will affect users in the East Midlands.

Thanks for the advise.
