3.5 flapper airflow meter on a 3.9?
« on: August 29, 2006, 14:19:06 »
Hi, does anyone know if a 3.5 flap airflow meter will work on a 3.9? does it just need the CO idle screw adjusting, or will it just not work?

I tried it on there but it was idling at about 2500rpm.

thanks.

3.9 air flow is a 'hot wire' meter and not a flapper. They probably give different 'readings' and given that the ECU is also different I'd say that it won't work.

mine is the early 3.9 (1989) which was flapper, then replaced shortly after by hot wire. so it's the same type of air flow meter

one would asume that if the conections are the same ie the plug conections are the same then it should work. the easiest way is to see if you can borrow one from some one  to see.

I don't think it will work as they are callibrated differently, going by the diagnostic checks given in the Haynes.  You could try it of course as they are cheap as fried potato products on E-Bay at the moment.
